Richie Rich

The students lines up and clapped to welcome Rich, one of our school's directors, for his visit.
Rich observed some of my classes.  He enjoyed them immensely and told me that the students are speaking more English this year, and they are more confident.
I showed him a wide variety of teaching strategies.  The students sang songs.  We practiced role-plays.  The students demonstrated their reading and writing skills.  Oddly enough, his favorite activity was Hangman.  I had finished my planned lesson in 2nd grade and had 10 minutes to kill, so I thought -Hangman!
One day, I took him to the pagoda.  I brought him into the cave to see the Buddha shrine, but he declined to go in any further where the bats live.

Everyone liked Rich.  He's easy-going, generous, loves the children, and is reasonable.  He understands that this is Cambodia.  It is not the U.S. or Norway.  There is not Marriott, it's hot, and the food is so bland it makes baby food seem tasty.  The other teachers liked him because he ate lunch with us in the lunchroom and played with the children and gave lots of "high fives" to them.
